David Schwimmer Responds to Lookalike Robbery Suspect With Spoof Surveillance Footage (Video)

“Friends” alum clears his name with an amusing parody

David Schwimmer

David Schwimmer is a funny guy? Who knew?

Former “Friends” star Schwinner was there for Twitter on Wednesday, dishing up a chuckle-worthy response to an earlier story that police in the U.K. were on the hunt for a robbery suspect who bears a striking resemblance to the actor.

In a Twitter post, Schwimmer adamantly insisted “it wasn’t me.”

He also posted a video spoofing the initial notice released by police, featuring Schwimmer shadily carrying goods down a grocery store aisle as what seemed to be a surveillance camera captured his furtive moves.

“Officers, I swear it wasn’t me,” Schwimmer wrote in his tweet. “As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.”

On Tuesday, Blackpool Police posted an image of the suspect on Facebook, asking the public for help if they recognized him.

In hilarious but probably unhelpful response, Twitter acknowledged that, yeah, the guy did look pretty familiar, in fact.

“It hasn’t been his day, his week, his month, and it’s unlikely to be his year! Blackpool police have shared this image of an alleged thief (left!) who looks uncannily like David Schwimmer (right),” “BBC Breakfast” tweeted. “Police said Schwimmer was out of the country at the time of the offense.”

The Blackpool Police showed that they, too, had a sense of humor, acknowledging the actor’s ribbing reaction.

“Thanks for being there for us David Schwimmer,” the police force wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday. “We appreciate your support!”
