Disney, IMAX Renew Film Slate Deal Through 2017

Agreement covers releases like “Star Wars: Episode VIII” and Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War”

IMAX and Walt Disney Studios have renewed their exhibition agreement through 2017, the two companies announced on Wednesday.

The muti-picture deal encompasses live-action and animated tentpole releases from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm, with key films in the deal to include “Star Wars: Rogue One” and “Episode VIII,” Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” and Pixar’s “Finding Dory.”

Other films included in the agreement are: “Ant-Man,” “Doctor Strange,” “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” “Thor: Ragnarok” and “The Jungle Book.”

“Our relationship with Disney has continued to strengthen after having released 25 films in IMAX theatres since 2009,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “The films in this new agreement promise to continue to provide IMAX audiences the highest-quality films available.”

The IMAX release of each film will be digitally re-mastered to the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.
