Constance Wu is going from “Crazy Rich Asians” to pole dancing protege. The actress learns how to entice — and fleece — wealthy patrons from mentor Jennifer Lopez in the new trailer for “Hustlers.”
Lopez demonstrates different stripper pole holds — “front hook, ankle hook, knee hook” — as Wu looks on. The former “In Living Color” Fly Girl shows off her dance background as she twirls around effortlessly.
“‘Hustlers’ follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients. The film is inspired by the article published by New York Magazine entitled ‘The Hustlers at Scores’ written by Jessica Pressler,” a synopsis reads.
The trailer also reveals the women’s motivations for hustling: Wu wants to take care of her grandmother (and also go shopping), whereas Lopez wants to exact revenge on the wealthy who profited off the working class.
“These Wall Street guys. You see what they did to this country?” Lopez asks. “They stole from everybody. Hardworking people lost everything. And not one of these douchebags went to jail.”
Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo and Cardi B also play strippers-turned-hustlers, while Julia Stiles appears to be some type of therapist.
“Hustlers” was written and directed by Lorene Scafaria. Elaine Goldsmith Thomas, Jessica Elbaum, Jennifer Lopez, Benny Medina, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay produced.
The film will be released on Sept. 13, 2019.
