Stephen Colbert’s Mary Poppins is gonna need much more than a spoonful of sugar to take this whole Brexit thing down.
The cold open to Wednesday’s “Late Show” tackled the particularly chilly topic of the U.K.’s planned withdrawal from the European Union. Leading into his monologue, Colbert presented a post-Brexit version of “Mary Poppins” — this one uses her umbrella to fly, yes, but also as a machine gun to fend off all those zombies.
“It’s every nanny for herself,” the CBS Poppins declares. “Now, let’s go fly a kite… in Hell!”
A little later, she has an uncomfortable exchange with that cute Mr. Bluebird: Now is not the time for singing, and she’s probably going to eat him.
