“Marco Polo,” an upcoming Netflix original series about the famed Italian explorer, will premiere on Dec. 12 in all territories where the streaming service is available.
The growing original content provider dropped the date on Thursday along with five stills from the 10-episode first season of the drama, which stars newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy as Polo.

Chinese actress Zhu Zhu plays Marco’s love interest, while Joan Chen (“Twin Peaks”) and Benedict Wong (“Prometheus”) co-star in the series following the explorer’s adventures through Kublai Khan’s court in 13th century China.
“Marco Polo” was created by John Fusco (“Hidalgo”), who is an executive producer along with Harvey Weinstein and Dan Minahan (“Game of Thrones”).
