‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ Gets Epic Full Trailer (Video)

Peter Jackson’s final J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation hits theaters in December

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” first official trailer which launched Thursday is as poignant a goodbye to Middle-Earth as fans could imagine.

Martin Freeman stars as Bilbo Baggins in this, the final installment for Peter Jackson‘s epic “Hobbit” trilogy. This first full-length trailer — discounting small snippets released at San Diego Comic Con in July — features quite a few familiar faces, including Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Benedict Cumberbatch, Billy Connolly, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom, and of course Ian McKellen as Gandalf.

“A plan long in the making,” announces wizard Gandalf just before the battle kicks off.

He ain’t kidding.

Jackson has been making J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired movies for nearly 15 years now, but this will be the last of them. With the trailer’s tightly-constructed action sequences, hair-raising CGI moments, and score — it’s hard to think that fans will be disappointed.

Produced by New Line, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters on December 17.
