Trump Campaign Blasts ‘Shameful’ CNN for Refusing to Air Its ‘Fake News’ Ad

“It’s clear that CNN is trying to silence our voice,” campaign’s executive director Michael Glassner says

President Trump’s re-election campaign shot back at CNN on Tuesday, calling the network’s decision to not air an ad about Trump’s first 100 days in office, “shameful.”

CNN has refused to air the ad which included the words “fake news” in bold, red font over photos of news anchors, including CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

“It is absolutely shameful to see the media blocking the positive message that President Trump is trying to share with the country,” said Campaign Executive Director Michael Glassner. “It’s clear that CNN is trying to silence our voice and censor our free speech because it doesn’t fit their narrative.”

CNN said it would be happy to air the ad under one condition: “CNN requested that the advertiser remove the false graphic that the mainstream media is ‘fake news.’ The mainstream media is not fake news, and therefore the ad is false and per policy will be accepted only if that graphic is deleted.”

CNN is not alone in the attack from Trump’s camp. The other journalists that the commercial calls “fake news” are MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell and Rachel Maddow, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and CBS’s Scott Pelley.

Despite CNN’s position, it remains possible that the ad may pop up on the network via a local ad buy.
