‘Survivor’ Renewed, Survives ‘American Idol’ Challenge

Show outwits, outplays, outlasts in tough new timeslot

"Survivor" evidently has an Immunity Idol against "American Idol."

CBS has ordered two more editions of "Survivor," to air during the 2011-2012 season, the network announced Wednesday. The renewal comes after the show's move to Wednesdays at 8 p.m., where it faces Fox's ratings powerhouse for the first time since "Survivor" debuted in May 2000.

Despite the tougher competition, "Survivor: Redemption Island," has performed well this season, averaging 11.70 million viewers, CBS said.

Jeff Probst will continue to host and executive produce. The two new editions will mark the 23rd and 24th incarnations for the series.
