Lena Dunham has finally settled on a Halloween costume for this year: Planned Parenthood doctor.
The “Girls” star, no stranger to controversy, revealed the choice in her weekly online newsletter after detailing her many failed attempts at a Halloween costume, including “mermaid fairy,” “fancy lady” and Louis C.K.
“I want to be accepted and to WIN BIG! And this year, I think I may have finally nailed it,” she wrote. “I’m going as something newsy, sexy and cool: a Planned Parenthood doctor!”
The essay was accompanied by a photo of Dunham in a Planned Parenthood lab coat with a clipboard and pen in hand.
Despite her determination to “win” at Halloween this year, Dunham also explained how she came to accept the fact that the holiday doesn’t matter.
“I spend the entire year occupying my arsenal of freak people,” she wrote. “Some are sexy in a way that translates in a dark bar. Some make people cross the street. Others are known only to me as I skitter around the house at night in a Bermuda-tourism T-shirt. But my characters need to bust out 365 days a year, not just on Oct 31.”
Dunham has voiced support for Planned Parenthood in the past, previously saying in a Vanity Fair interview that her real-life heroes were “the men and women who work at Planned Parenthood centers across America.”
