Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence’s plane skidded off the runway at LaGuardia Airport in New York City on Thursday.
The Associated Press reported that no passengers were injured in the accident, in which the plane slid off the runway into grass. Rescue crews quickly responded.
“We could feel the plane moving, and it was just not a natural landing that you experience,” said CNN’s Elizabeth Landers, who was on the plane at the time, in an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett on “OutFront.”
New York’s WPIX reported that there were 37 people on board at the time of the accident, including Pence, who is the governor of Indiana.
Earlier in the day, Pence tweeted a photo of himself playing football at an airport in Iowa while his plane was grounded due to poor weather conditions in New York.
“A ground hold at LaGuardia led to some football on the tarmac in Iowa,” Pence wrote, accompanied by the hashtag #GameOn.
Pence isn’t having the best week. He said on Twitter Monday that his family dog of 13 years, Maverick, passed away on Sunday night.
The governor spent Thursday at campaign stops in Omaha, Nebraska and the Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was next scheduled to appear on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Friday, and at rallies in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
