The Japanese production designer Kyoko Heya has been named to the five-member jury of the international competition section of the Tokyo International Film Festival, the festival announced on Thursday.
The American director/producer Roger Corman is heading up the jury, which also includes the British producer Luc Roeg, the Japanese director Yojiro Takita, and the Italian director/writer Emanuele Crialese.
Running from October 20-28, the festival will open with two films this year, including Ridley Scott’s “Japan in a Day,” which has been selected as the special opening film for the 25th TIFF. It makes its world premiere at the festival.
“Japan in a Day” is a collection of video submissions filmed on March 11 of this year. These have been compiled into a single film about Japan’s road to recovery following last year’s tsunami and earthquake.
“Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away” from James Cameron and Andrew Adamson, will serve as main opening night film for the festival this year.

The Clint Eastwood starrer, “Trouble with the Curve” will serve as the official closing film. The story follows an aging major league baseball scout who embarks on a final road trip with his daughter to make up for lost time. The film is directed by Robert Lorenz.
For its ninth edition, the festival’s market arm TIFFCOM, is moving from the festival center of Roppongi Hills in central Tokyo to Odaiba in the Tokyo Bay area. The new location offers more exhibition space.
This year, for the first time, three of Japan’s main content markets will take place during TIFFCOM. This includes the 9th Tokyo International Music Market (TIMM); the Tokyo International Anime Festival (TIAF) 2012; and the Creative Market Tokyo 2012 (CMT).
TIFFCOM announced earlier the launch of a new fund to help export Japanese content overseas. The fund will help subsidize the production fees related to overseas sales, theatrical releases, and TV broadcasting.
