Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson Square Off and Meltdown in Funny or Die Play (Video)

The former co-stars stage an adaptation of The National doc “Mistaken for Strangers”

Once co-stars on the criminally underrated HBO comedy “Bored to Death,” Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson reunited at the behest of Funny or Die for a new video meant to promote the brothers rock doc “Mistaken for Strangers.”

That’s a lot of Brooklyn, and as it turns out, a lot of drama.

The promo video is a remarkably meta spin on the “Mistaken for Strangers” doc itself, which was comprised of the video that Tom Berninger, little brother of The National lead singer Matt Berninger, took while serving as a terribly inefficient assistant tour manager for the band. It’s a revealing and remarkably honest look at an off-beat guy who has long suffered in his brother’s shadow.

For the FOD video, Galifianakis and Danson try to turn the doc into a stage play — with the help of the Berninger brothers — and suffer similar difficulties and emotional breakdowns. It is excellent.
