3Net Plans ‘Civil War 3D’

3D miniseries will follow Massachusetts and Virginia regiments

3Net will debut "The Civil War 3D," a four-part miniseries that seeks to immerse viewers in the history of the war.

The network, a joint venture between Sony, Discovery and IMAX, has begun principal photography on the show, which will air in the fall. The series will follow the Union's Massachusetts 20th regiment and the Confederate’s Virginia 1st.

The series will rely heavily on letters from Union soldier Henry Livermore Abbott, who died in the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864, and the memoirs of Confederate cadet Charles Loehr. Viewers will see how their differences in beliefs, strategy, artillery and support influenced the conflict’s final outcome.
