(Spoilers: Don’t read this if you don’t want to know how “Avengers: Infinity War” ends.)
The end of “Avengers: Infinity War” left everyone with the same question: How can they bring all those people back to life? One fan has an interesting theory, and goes back to something Captain America says during the film.
“Infinity War” ends, as you’ll painfully recall, with heroes like Spider-Man and Black Panther, among many others, disintegrating into dust. How to reverse that permanent-looking fate? Look to the past — by which we mean, a little earlier in “Infinity War.”
In a scene at Avengers headquarters, Vision mentions that he is willing to sacrifice his own life to save billions, and Captain America responds, “We don’t trade lives.” In another scene, Thanos had to make a horrible sacrifice in exchange for the soul stone.
However, Cap may end up eating his words. As @marvelunsolved tweeted: “I keep thinking that in A4 there’s gonna be trade off of SOME lives for others. A soul for soul.”

There might be some weight to this theory because Marvel rarely sets up something without eventually paying it off. At the end of “Infinity War,” all the early film heroes like Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man survived Thanos wiping out half the population.
They just happen to be played by actors, like Robert Downey Jr., who might be looking for a graceful way to bow out after a decade in the Marvel Universe.
Could it be that in “Avengers 4,” the survivors trade “a soul for soul” to bring back the disintegrated heroes?
We have a year to think about it. “Avengers 4,” which still doesn’t have a title, opens theatrically May 3, 2019.
