‘The Crown’ Season 2 Trailer: ‘The World Has Changed,’ Indeed (Video)

World War II shakes up Britain’s social order

Bow to Netflix, for it has bestowed “The Crown” Season 2 trailer on us.

The two-minute, 29-second preview opens with these ominous words: “The world has changed. Society in Britain has changed.”

Princess Margaret is a prime example of exactly that: “I know who I am,” Vanessa Kirby’s character says in the trailer. “A woman for the modern age: free to live, to love, and free to break away.”

Cue the sex scene.

The streaming giant’s original series tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, as the fragile social order established after the Second World War breaks apart, per Netflix’s official description. Based on the award-winning play, “The Audience,” the series reunites creator/writer Peter Morgan with director Stephen Daldry and producer Andy Harries.

Beginning with soldiers in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt and ending with the downfall of her third Prime Minister, the second season bears witness to the end of the age of deference, and ushers in the revolutionary era of the 1960s. “The Crown” continues to chronicle the major political and global events that have defined and shaped the second half of the 20th century.

Season 2 will launch in its entirety December 8 on Netflix.
