Mean Ol’ Baby Snake Devours Baby Mouse on Nat Geo WILD’s ‘Heartland Docs, DVM’ (Exclusive Video)

New episode airs Saturday

A new episode of Nat Geo WILD’s “Heartland Docs, DVM” airs this Saturday, and you may not be able to stomach the carnage between a little baby snake and an even littler baby mouse in an exclusive clip obtained by TheWrap.

Don’t worry — the baby mouse was already dead before the snake unhinged its jaws and swallowed it in one bite.

All of this goes down in the new episode, called “Old Town Rodeo,” (get it?) in which a young boy brings in his 5-week old baby snake who has been refusing to eat his dinner. That’s where Dr. Ben Schroeder comes to the rescue — but he can’t resist taunting his son Charlie, who has an irrational fear of snakes. Good thing the baby snake was already full before he slithered into Charlie’s hand.

“Heartland Docs, DVM” follows Drs. Ben and Erin Schroeder and their two teenage sons, Chase and Charlie.

According to Nat Geo, the couple “live and work at the center of America’s food-chain where the livelihoods of Midwestern farmers connect to families nationwide. Here, winter blizzards, spring tornados, and blistering summer heatwaves present a wide range of challenges that only the grittiest and most passionate vets are qualified to handle. Luckily, Ben and Erin have the skill and heart that a homestead vet requires and they’re anxious to pass it along to the next generation. The Schroeder’s credo is to not just save the animals that America depends on, but to make each visit something to look forward to for both the animals and their caretakers, even in the toughest conditions.”

The next episode of “Heartland Docs, DVM” airs Saturday, Feb. 22th at 10/9c on Nat Geo WILD.
