‘American Idol’ Finalist Lauren Alaina Will Sing Tonight After All

Despite a blown-out vocal cord, contestant will compete against Scotty McCreery in performance finale

UPDATE: Despite initial worries, Lauren Alaina has decided to go forward with performing on tonight's "American Idol."

"I'm fine; don't worry about it," Alaina told host Ryan Seacrest, the judges, and an anxious nation viewing at home at the beginning of the episode.

A doctor came out on stage and noted that Alaina had blown out a vocal cord earlier.

"American Idol" contestant Lauren Alaina is in serious danger of being knocked out of competition on the series, as the season prepares to draw to a finale.

An individual close to the production confirmed to TheWrap that Alaina has been losing her voice to the point where it was unclear whether she would be able to perform at the finale on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Haley Reinhart was rehearsing, according to the individual, and preparing to step in if necessary.

"We probably won't know until just before the show," said the person close to production.

Alaina is currently facing off against Scotty McCreery for the title of the country's newest Idol, but if she finds herself unable to compete, producers could reinstate Haley Reinhart, who came in third in the competition, to perform against McCreery.

It's unclear what Alaina's malady is.

Reinhart was voted off of the show last week. It likely didn't help that her performance on last Wednesday's episode included a slip-and-fall while she performed Led Zeppelin's "What Is & What Should Never Be."
