Apple Removes Controversial Anti-Israeli App

“The Third Intifada” app was taken down Wednesday night after pressure from Israel’s Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs

Apple removed controversial “The Third Intifada” app Wednesday — one week after its June 15 release.

Arabic for “shaking off,” "The Third Intifada" calls for a third revolt against Israel. The app also includes a social component, which allows users to collaborate and share strategies for violent uprising.

Facebook removed "The Third Intifada" group page from their site in March.

In a Monday letter to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Israel's Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein wrote, “I am convinced that you are aware of this type of application's ability to unite many toward an objective that could be disastrous.”

An Apple spokesman told the New York Times that the company removed the app because “it violates the developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people."

The app take-down comes on the heels of another public-pushed app take down earlier this year. Apple took down the Exodus International “gay cure” app earlier this year after members of the LGBT community spoke out about the app's damaging and homophobic messages.

Apple also rejected the “Me So Holy” application before its release, which allows users to place their face onto various religious icons.
