Bill Maher says Donald Trump’s win could turn out to be “a victory for third parties in America.”
On Friday’s “Real Time” season finale, Maher said president-elect Trump “should have been a third-party candidate — an oddball billionaire who doesn’t really have the ideology of either party.”
He went on to say that America has wanted a third-party system forever and Trump’s win is pointing the country in that direction.
“This is actually how a third-party gets elected, using one of the parties as a host, right, but not really being one of them,” Maher said. “To look on the bright side, this is an opportunity because he doesn’t really have an ideology that is beholden to either party. He can kind of do anything.”
While looking on the bright side of the election results, Maher couldn’t help but throw in a little dig to the man he frequently calls a “whiny little bitch.”
“I’ve seen this guy change his position from the beginning to the end of a sentence,” he said. “His conman skills can come in handy here, and he could be a success because he’ll take credit. He says ‘I’ll get rid of ISIS.’ We’re getting rid of ISIS. ‘I’ll put America back to work.’ We did it. Deporting people — Obama is doing it. [Trump] just has to stand there and say ‘I did it.’”
The show will return on January 20, which happens to be Inauguration Day and Maher’s birthday.
