The latest trailer for James Gray’s sci-fi “Ad Astra” shows a more action-heavy side to the film, with Brad Pitt getting locked into a firefight while riding on a moon rover.
Pitt even tumbles from an exploding space station in this new, visually stunning teaser. But like Gray’s other recent epics like “The Immigrant” and “The Lost City of Z,” “Ad Astra” still looks like a contemplative adventure.
In the film, Pitt plays an astronaut as he travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father. The mission unravels a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. Pitt stars alongside Tommy Lee Jones as his father, as well as a cast that also includes Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler and Donald Sutherland.
“Exploration isn’t always a noble venture,” Sutherland’s character tells Pitt. “We have to hold out the possibility that your father may be hiding from us.”
“Ad Astra” had been pushed back first from January 2019, then again from a planned summer release following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney, and Gray’s film will now open on Sept. 20 from Walt Disney Studios.
