Cherchez the New Hollywood Reporter — If You Can Find It

I spent an hour at five newstands trying to find out who would carry the new THR weekly. Makes a gal want to stick with the internet

I am seriously burning with anticipation to see the new Hollywood Reporter issue, but wonder where I’m gonna find the thing.

I just spent an hour driving around the West Side and four out of five newstands did not carry the trade, whose new magazine debuts tomorrow in weekly format.

Pavilions did not. The big Von’s on Wilshire did not. Barnes and Noble in Santa Monica said they’d canceled it months ago, but was I interested in Daily Variety. (No.)

That is a bit surprising, because THR promised differently in its news release Tuesday:

"The publication will be available at Barnes & Nobles nationwide, and in L.A., at local newsstands, in Gelson's and Bristol Farms markets, and airport newsstands.”

Meanwhile, the cover for the first edition (left), also surprised me a bit. I don't want to prejudge the thing, but covers matter a lot — and this one looks like many I have seen over the years in Variety or THR Oscar specials.

Come on, Janice! I was expecting dripping blood, or nearly-visible nipples or something … I dunno … sensational.

My first thought: Does the 'influencer' consumer want to read a transcript of a bunch of actresses talking about their performances this season?

But back to my search.

Finally, the guy at the sprawling newstand on the same  promenade said he would have the new edition Wednesday. I can't wait to crack a copy and get a look. We’ll get you a review and a digest – because it looks like you may have some trouble finding it, too.
