FX Sets Sail with New Pirate Show from Graham King and Gale Anne Hurd

Fox in talks for Ridley Scott series “Pyrates”

The latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" film may have opened softer than expected, but that's not stopping Fox's suite of television channels from hoisting the Jolly Roger.

FX and Fox International Channels (FIC) announced on Tuesday that it will partner with Graham King’s GK-tv and Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment on a new one-hour drama "Port Royale."

The show will be set in 17th century Jamaica, and will chronicle the country's development into a safe haven for piracy.

The series is based on the original idea by Hurd ("The Walking Dead," "Aliens").

Perhaps feeling buccaneer envy, FX's corporate cousin Fox is in talks to acquire "Pyrates" a new series from Ridley and Tony Scott's Free Productions and Ensemble Entertainment, TheWrap has confirmed. There's no deal in place, but if picked up, "Pyrates" would likely have a 10 to 13 episode limited run in the summer of 2012.

Deadline first reported news of the talks.
