HBO has acquired U.S. rights to the documentary “Precious Life,” the cable network announced on Tuesday. The deal marks one of the first buys of the Toronto Film Festival, where the film is an official selection of the festival.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The movie centers on the struggle of a four-month-old Palestinian boy from Gaza to get a bone marrow transplant from an Israeli hospital that could save his life.
Directed by Israeli broadcast journalist Shlomi Eldar and produced by Ehud Bleiberg and Yoav Ze’evi, the movie will air on the cable channel in 2011.
HBO which has been a documentary powerhouse, has fielded an ambitious slate of non-fiction films recently. Among their current and upcoming projects are Spike Lee's look at post-Katrina New Orleans "If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise" and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Lawrence Wright's "My Trip to Al-Queda."
Bleiberg of Bleiberg Entertainment previously produced “Adam Resurrected,” and “The Band’s Visit.”
