HBO Picks Up Scott Rudin and Aaron Sorkin’s Drama Pilot

Show set backstage on a cable news program

HBO has ordered a pilot for Aaron Sorkin's drama about a cable news program, TheWrap has confirmed.

Sorkin, who wrote "The Social Network," is writing the show. He and "Social Network" producer Scott Rudin are executive producing.

The pilot will be filmed later this year.

Sorkin also wrote the movies "The American President," "A Few Good Men," "Charlie Wilson's War" and "Malice," and created the television shows "The West Wing," "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and "Sports Night." Those dramas all aired on broadcast, rather than cable networks.

"The Social Network" won Sorkin "best screenplay" at this year's Golden Globes. The movie also won best picture – drama, best director and best original score. It is nominated for eight Academy Awards, including best picture, best director and best adapted screenplay.
