Jim Gaffigan Defends Nickelback: ‘If You Don’t Like it, Turn it Off’ (Video)

“They are perfectly nice guys, it’s not like you meet them and they are monsters,” the comedian says

Comedian Jim Gaffigan defended Nickelback, who are for some reason among the most-hated musicians in the world.

“I don’t know anything about Nickelback, but I know my friends that are super cool despise Nickelback,” Gaffigan told Conan O’Brien on Wednesday. “Like they kidnapped the Lindbergh baby. They’re playing music. If you don’t like it, turn it off.”

He went on to explain “Outrage Jail,” where people seem to hate some celebrity “for no reason at all.” Another example he gave is Carrot Top.

“[Nickelback] are perfectly nice guys, it’s not like you meet them and they are monsters,” Gaffigan added. “I think it’s just that people define themselves by criticizing other things, and I think that’s wrong.”

In April, Finnish student Salli Anttonen completed a scientific study that determined why the Canadian pop-grunge combo is so universally despised.

“Nickelback is too much of everything to be enough of something,” Anttonen told the BBC. “They follow genre expectations too well, which is seen as empty imitation.”
