Jon Favreau Teases New Filmed Project With Chef Roy Choi (Video)

“The Lion King” director and food truck king previously collaborated on 2014’s “Chef”

Jon Favreau is cooking up something new with renowned chef and Los Angeles institution Roy Choi.

Favreau, who tapped Choi as a co-producer on the 2014 Open Road indie “Chef,”  said he’s been rolling footage on a new project that will go public soon.

“I’m filming some stuff now, it’s something I’m doing on my own and I’m not actually sure what form it’s going to take,” Favreau said this week, at an event for the Los Angeles Times Food Bowl — a monthlong celebration of the L.A.’s culinary scene.

“Chef” made a respectable $31 million in limited release, and starred Favreau as a jaded superstar cook who turned to a then-frowned-upon venue to serve his fare: a food truck.

Choi is considered the grandfather of the haute cuisine food truck movement, acting as co-owner and chef for Korean bbq truck Kogi. He’s expanded his empire to full-fledged restaurants like Commissary, A-Frame and LocoL.

It’s unclear if the project will be another feature film, streaming series, etc. A rep for Favreau declined to elaborate at this time. He’s also busy with his day job, tackling the live-action adaptation of Disney’s “The Lion King,” following the blockbuster he spun for the studio in 2016’s live-action ‘The Jungle Book.”

There’s an appetite for food content, proven by that very Food Bowl event. It was a panel titled “Chef’s Fable,” about the intersection of the culinary industry, star chefs and Hollywood.

LA Times food critic Jonathan Gold moderated a conversation with Favreau, Choi, Magnus Nilsson (Faviken chef and Gwyneth Paltrow taco collaborator), David Gelb (director of “Chef’s Table” and “Jiro Dreams of Sushi”) and Massimo Bottura (Osteria Francescana).
