Kerry Washington, Nathan Fillion, Lea DeLaria and Lewis Hamilton have joined the voice cast of “Cars 3,” Disney announced Thursday.
They join the previously announced cast of Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo and Armie Hammer. Washington will voice Natalia Certain, a statistical analyst; Fillion voices Sterling, a brilliant businesscar; and DeLaria will voice Miss Fritter, a local legend. Hamilton vill voice Hamilton, a built-in voice command assistant to Alonzo’s character, Cruz Ramirez.
“We’re introducing some fun and really appealing characters in ‘Cars 3,’” said director Brian Fee in a statement. “So we really wanted to find the right voices to help us breathe life into them. We hit a homerun with this group; I couldn’t be happier.”
In addition, several cast members from the original cast will return, including Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, Bonnie Hunt as Sally and Cheech Marin as Ramone. Longtime Pixar story artist Fee will helm “Cars 3” in his directorial debut, with Randy Newman returning to provide music for the film.
“Cars” and “Cars 2” grossed $244 million and $191.5 million at the domestic box office, respectively. The first film was released in 2006, while its sequel hit theaters in 2011. Both films are among the top 50 highest-grossing animated films worldwide.
“Cars 3” will hit theaters on June 16.
