Laura Prepon Joins Netflix Series ‘Orange Is the New Black’

Jason Biggs co-stars in the women's prison drama from "Weeds" creator Jenji Kohan

Laura Prepon, best known for playing Eric Foreman's spunky girlfriend on "That '70s Show," is joining the cast of the upcoming Netflix series "Orange Is the New Black."

Though Netflix is new to the original content game, the prison drama has an impressive pedigree. Jason Biggs, who made his name performing unspeakable acts on baked goods in "American Pie," is set to star, and the show will be overseen by Jenji Kohan, creator of Showtime's "Weeds."

The series was inspired by a memoir from Piper Kerman, who spent a year in a women’s prison. Prepon will play an ex-drug runner who ends up in the big house.

In addition to her work on the late-'90s sitcom "That '70s Show," Prepon appeared opposite Chelsea Handler on "Are You There, Chelsea?," which was canceled last May by NBC. She next appears alongside Bruce Willis in the film  “Lay the Favorite," directed by Stephen Frears ("The Queen").

"Orange Is the New Black" continues Netflix's investment in original programming. It kicked off its bet last February with the mobster-out-of-water comedy "Lilyhammer" and is set to air new episodes of the cult comedy "Arrested Development" along with “House of Cards," a political drama that boasts David Fincher and Kevin Spacey.
