Matt Damon Is Astronaut Desperately Trying to Return to Earth in First ‘Martian’ Trailer (Video)

The space adventure blasts into theaters November 25

Twentieth Century Fox released the first trailer for Matt Damon‘s “The Martian” on Monday.

In the film, Damon plays an astronaut who becomes stranded on the Red Planet. He must find ways to survive in the inhospitable environment while also coming up with a way to signal NASA that he is still alive. And even if his message gets through, as the trailer points out, “Help is only 140 million miles away.”

Faced with the daunting task of rigging a science station meant to last 31 days to support him for four years, Damon’s character says he has only one option: “I’m going to have to science the s–t out of this.”

The film also stars Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, and Kristen Wiig. Ridley Scott directed the film. Drew Goddard wrote the screenplay, which was based on the novel of the same name.

“The Martian” will premiere on November 25.
