Nicole Clemens has left ICM Partners for FX, taking over as SVP of Series Development at the cable channel.
Clemens was a partner at the recently reorganized agency, heading up the motion-picture literary department and representing the likes of Harald Zwart (“The Karate Kid”), Neil LaBute (“Death at a Funeral”) and Ronald Harwood (“The Pianist”).
However, many of her clients, such as “Sons of Anarchy” showrunner Kurt Sutter, work in TV.
“I’m honored to be joining such a phenomenal team at FX who have been responsible for the most audacious programming which inspires me every week,” Clemens said in a statement. “It’s an added bonus that I will be able to continue to work closely with my longtime friend Kurt Sutter.”
Clemens has long expressed a desire to return to television, which she will do with the channel that airs Sutter’s show.
It might strike some as odd that Clemens would become a partner and then dart out the door less than two months later. However, based on both her statement and what individuals close to ICM Partners said, the 15-year agency vet wanted to see the partnership through. “It was important to me to have been part of the team that returned ownership to the agency,” Clemens said in a statement.
Clemens joined the agency in 1997 and founded its life rights department and in a joinst statement the partners described her as “an integral aprt of the agency for many years.”
They also expressed their full support. In light of the bonhomie surrounding her departure, the agency expects most of her clients to remain — but that will play out over the next few weeks.
