Paramount Sets Dates for ‘Paranormal Activity 5,’ Retitled Latino Spin-Off

"Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" will haunt theaters early next year

Paramount has gotten spooked and decided to release the Latino spin-off of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise, formerly titled "The Oxnard Tapes," under the "Paranormal Activity" brand after all.

Studio will release Christopher Landon's "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" on Jan. 3, 2014, and while the spin-off will technically be the fifth film in the blockbuster horror franchise it will not bear that numeral, which is reserved for the installment later that year.

"Paranormal Activity 5" will hit theaters on Oct. 24, 2014, and TheWrap previously reported that Greg Plotkin, who edited the last three “Paranormal” films, is likely to direct.

"Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" has been testing well. It has been deemed a "cousin" to the franchise, with one insider saying "it exists in a parallel universe," as the film ends with people standing outside the same house where the first “Paranormal” began.

"Paranormal Activity 4" grossed $140 million worldwide on a reported production budget of only $5 million.
