President Donald Trump picked the wrong city to name as a beneficiary of his decsion to ditch the Paris climate agreement: Pittsburgh mayor says that even though Trump claims to support Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh doesn’t support Trump.
White House Secretary Sean Spicer quoted Trump saying he was backing out of the climate change pact because he was “elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.”
Peduto had a spiky response on Twitter: “As the Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of Paris Agreement for our people, our economy and future.”
And just to be sure Mr. Trump got the message, Peduto tweeted out some fun facts, you know, for educational purposes.
“Fact: Hillary Clinton received 80% of the vote in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh stands with the world & will follow Paris Agreement @HillaryClinton,” the mayor said.
And to make it even more clear that Pittsburgh ain’t playing, Peduto added: “The United States joins Syria, Nicaragua & Russia in deciding not to participate with world’s Paris Agreement. It’s now up to cities to lead.”
Had Trump Googled Peduto, he would have known that Peduto is a YUGE climate change advocate.
Bottom line, Mr. President: No one is saving you a seat at Primanti Bros.
As the Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris Agreement for our people, our economy & future. https://t.co/3znXGTcd8C
