Report: Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning Cast in J.J. Abrams’ ‘Super 8’

Steven Spielberg is exec producing the Paramount movie, which is rumored to follow three sibling who discover footage of an alien

"Friday Night Lights" star Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning have been cast in J.J. Abrams' "Super 8," reports Vulture.

TheWrap's messages for the duo's respective representation, as well as Paramount, were not immediately returned late Friday afternoon.

The project has been shrouded in secrecy ever since a teaser trailer was unveiled before prints of Paramount's "Iron Man 2," so it's unclear what roles the actors will be playing in the film. What is known is that the story is rumored to follow three siblings who discover footage of an alien in one of their homemade movies that was filmed with the titular camera.

Steven Spielberg is serving as an executive producer on the project, and clearly he's had his eye on Chandler for a while now, since the actor was offered one of the lead roles in Spielberg's upcoming Fox series "Terra Nova."

Spielberg is likely also familiar with Fanning, having directed her older sister, Dakota, in "War of the Worlds."

Fanning next stars opposite Stephen Dorff in Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere," which recently won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. She's also set to play Mary in the upcoming movie "The Nutcracker in 3D."
