Since the passing of Luke Perry last spring, “Riverdale” fans have been wondering how the CW show would handle the sudden passing of Archie’s dad. Attendees at New York Comic Con got a taste from a new trailer released in advance of Wednesday’s Season 4 premiere.
The trailer opens with Archie and his friends getting ready for a summer camping trip and thinking about their final year of high school. But their quiet peace is torn apart when Archie receives a phone call informing him of his father’s unexpected passing, leaving him too shocked to even stand.
“It hurts that I never got to say goodbye,” Archie says.
While Archie finds a way to pay tribute to his father’s work in the community, the pulpy soap opera drama of “Riverdale” rolls on. The trailer also shows Veronica visiting her father in jail and coming to terms with his mafia secrets, Archie becoming a masked vigilante, and sex. Lots and lots of TV-14 sex.
Based on the Archie Comics characters, “Riverdale” hails from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater are executive producers.

The Season 4 premiere of “Riverdale” air October 9 at 8/7c on The CW.
