Universal’s untitled R-rated comedy starring Seth Rogen, Zach Galifianakis and Bill Hader, which was originally scheduled for a May 26, 2017 release, has been removed from the calendar and is now undated.
A source close to the studio said the decision came down to a scheduling issue. May 26 is shaping up to be a crowded release date, with Sony’s thriller “Life,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds, and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” also slated for that weekend.
Rodney Rothman, who wrote the script for ”22 Jump Street,” was set to write, direct and produce the comedy, while Rogen’s company, Point Grey Pictures, was producing along with Good Universe. Universal Pictures was scheduled to distribute.
“The Something” — the film’s original working title — centers on a group of male astronauts who are stuck in space for several years before they come upon another ship.
Rogen and Hader have filmed several movies together, including “Pineapple Express,” “Superbad” and “Knocked Up.” Rogen’s recent credits include “Steve Jobs,” “The Night Before” and “Neighbors 2.” Up next for Rogen, “Zeroville,” directed by and starring James Franco. Hader makes his directorial debut with the TV movie “Barry.”
Galifianakis’ recent credits include “Birdman” and “Muppets Most Wanted.” His action-comedy “Masterminds” with Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Jason Sudeikis opens in theaters Sept. 30.
