Colbert to Perform ‘Friday’ With the Roots on Fallon for Charity

Comedy Central host says he’ll cover Rebecca Black’s viral hit if $26,000 donation is matched

Stephen Colbert says he will perform "Friday," Rebecca Black's viral hit, with the Roots on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" on Friday — if Colbert and Fallon's $26,000 donations to DonorsChoose.org, a charity that helps students in need through school donations, are matched by fans.

Fallon and Colbert announced the initiative on Monday's "Late Night."

The quasi-rival late night hosts have become chummy of late — with Fallon appearing on "The Colbert Report" a day after Ben & Jerry's debuted a new flavor, "Late Night Snack," in his honor. (Colbert already has his own Ben & Jerry's flavor: "Americone Dream.")

To this point, just $2,923 has been donated, but it’s early.

Note: despite the show's date — April 1 — Fallon's producers claim that the charitable stunt "is not an April Fool’s joke."
