During upfronts week, the talent behind new shows hits NYC, while those from the cancellation column found plenty of soirees in Hollywood to drown their sorrows.
Out With the Old (Hollywood):
Despite ABC pulling “Happy Town” almost immediately, star Geoff Stults joined Jeremy Renner and a bunch of happy faces at Maxim’s annual “Hot 100” bash on Wednesday night. (The suddenly ubiquitous Olivia Munn was a headliner at this event.)
Rebecca Mader, Jermaine Dupri and Jeremy Piven were among the crowd test-driving Harley Davidson treadmills (riding in place) on Paramount’s backlot. The men’s mag converted 
Paramount’s “ocean” set in a giant homage to the Hollywood sign at the Absolut-sponsored bash for more than 1,500 guests.
Guests scavenged the corners looking for Leonardo DiCaprio, who reportedly was camped out under his trademark ballcap, but the press-shy actor ducked all photographers (and the ubiquitous models offering Ed Hardy cologne spray) in making a stealth appearance at the female-heavy event.

A few nights earlier, Miley Cyrus said goodbye to “Hannah Montana” at the final season’s wrap party at h.wood on Sunday. Will Smith put on his “suburban dad” costume, dropping off kids Jaden Smith (“The Katate Kid”) and Willow Smith at the bash before driving off. (Both child actors are Cyrus’ fellow Disney stars.) For the record, there was no Cyrus vs. Adam Shankman grinding at the casino-themed event.
And while "Dancing With the Stars" is only wrapping for the season next week, recurring pro dancers Derek Hough and Mark Ballas celebrated the end, and their birthdays, at Haute on Monday night. ESPN’s Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy had the paparazzi breaking down the security and rushing to the carpet when they arrived together — but in separate cars — near midnight.
In With the New (NYC):
On the East Coast, the networks celebrated the new fall shows and stars with parties in New York.
There’s both old and new in the cast of NBC’s new “Happy Couples”. Munn (on the left in photo by Getty Images), from "Iron Man 2" and cable net G4, joined Hayes MacArthur, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, David Walton and Christine Woods at the New York Hilton on the day after THR spoiled NBC’s announcement.
MacArthur’s pickup comes as his wife, Ali Larter, moves on from NBC’s now-canceled “Heroes.”
Walton and MacArthur have good reason to be smiling: They’re longtime friends from the L.A. network of prep school alums, who ended up on the show together in a casting fluke. (Disclosure: I too am a part of the L.A. circle of prep school alums and I attended Deerfield with MacArthur.)
Later in the week, The CW threw a festive bash with Katy Perry belting out her hits. The female-skewing network’s entertainment president, Dawn Ostroff, hung out with male stars Ed Westwick, Ian Somerhalder and Chace Crawford at Abe and Arthur’s after the presentation in Madison Square Garden.
Meanwhile, two Massachusetts natives, Bridget Moynihan and Donnie Wahlberg, embraced their shared lineage as they prepare to play New Yorkers in CBS’ “Blue Bloods.” The Bay Staters (left; photo by Getty Images) joined co-star Tom Selleck at CBS’ Lincoln Center upfront presentation.
