Watch Live-Action and Animation Mix in Trailer for Sundance Doc ‘Nuts!’ (Exclusive Video)

Project comes from “Our Nixon” filmmaker Penny Lane

Contrary to what the title might suggest, “Nuts!” is not about a squirrel searching for its next meal or someone losing their mind. Instead, the Sundance documentary is the fascinating story of the doctor who discovered he could implant goat testicles into men to cure impotence.

In the exclusive trailer (above), the history of Dr. John Romulus Brinkley is chronicled, and the trailer also shows off the film’s distinctive aesthetic, with animated reenactments making up more than half of the runtime.

The film is described as the mostly true story of Brinkley, an eccentric genius who built an empire with his goat-testicle impotence cure and a million-watt radio station.

In addition to its animated reenactments, the story is told through interviews, archival footage and one seriously unreliable narrator who traces Brinkley’s rise from poverty to celebrity and influence in 1920s America.

“Nuts!” is premiering in the U.S. Documentary Competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
