Conan O’Brien thinks he’d be the perfect stunt — and body — double for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in his new movie, “Rampage” — but the training for it went anything but smoothly.
On Wednesday night’s “Conan,” the late-night host pitched himself to Johnson, comparing his stature — mostly his chest — to the movie star.
“I don’t see what you have that I don’t have,” the comedian said to the actor. “You’re a good-looking guy… I clean up pretty nice. You’re a big guy… check me out.”
After pitching two movie ideas the duo could star in together, including “Zamboni Drift” and “Pump ‘n’ Dump,” O’Brien finally said he’d like to train to become Johnson’s stuntman with just some “very minor alterations.”
O’Brien put on a bald cap and the same outfit Johnson was wearing, with the first test entailing him practicing Johnson’s lines. Then, the pair trained for the actual stunt portion, where O’Brien gets launched onto a table of bottles.
“I thought I nailed it,” O’Brien said.
“I thought it was supposed to be a launch, but it was more like a roll,” Johnson said. “I want it again.”
After the second take, Johnson was still not feeling “the pain,” and added an extra large beaker to the table. And for the final challenge, O’Brien had to face off against the albino gorilla named George — but he definitely failed that test.
“Rampage” also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Naomie Harris and Jason Liles. It will hit theaters on April 13.
