David Letterman, like everybody else, has been hammering away at NBC this week over its late-night lineup fiasco, even suggesting NBC develop a "Law & Order: Leno Victims Unit.”
But NBC is about to give the “Late Show” host a taste of his own medicine – in the form of a "Law & Order" episode.
The Dick Wolf cop drama — with its “ripped from the headlines” plots — is set to air its long-awaited take on the Letterman sextortion scandal on Friday.
But NBC is giving the “Late Show” affair an unlikely plot twist:
The episode – entitled “Blackmail” – features ex-“Daily Show” correspondent Samantha Bee as a female daytime talk show host whose accused extortionist wants $3 million.
Robert “Joe” Halderman, Letterman’s accused extortionist in real life, allegedly wanted $2 million.
Bee’s character even gives a monologue similar to Letterman’s:
"I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve been having a pretty lousy week. … As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve done some pretty kinky things in my life — was anybody really surprised?"
And, of course, there’s murder: in the "Law & Order" version, a freelance journalist is slain.
