Macaulay Culkin will star in a new film titled “Adam Green’s Aladdin” alongside Natasha Lyonne (“Orange is the New Black”) and Zoe Kravitz.
The actor, who famously starred as Kevin in “Home Alone,” has not been in a movie since 2007 when he did “Sex and Breakfast,” having focused on TV series like “Kings” and “The Jim Gaffigan Show” instead. Culkin is set to make an appearance in “Zoolander 2,” opening Feb. 12.
In his subversive take on the Classic Arabian Nights tale, indie rocker Green stars as the titular character of the film, in which his symbolic imagination makes the famous genie lamp a 3-D printer. In the film, the princess is a socialite and the planet gets a sex change. The film follows Aladdin’s dysfunctional family living in a city ruled by a corrupt Sultan.
“With Aladdin, I wanted to create a single and unified experience to showcase my music, art and writing,” said Green. “When creating Aladdin, I approached the script like it was a song. It has been the creative journey of a lifetime, and I’m so excited to put this out!”
“Adam Green’s Aladdin” was filmed entirely with handmade paper-máche sets and more than 500 props and 30 rooms constructed out of phone books, newspapers, glue and house paint.
Culkin will star as Ralph the Rebel Leader, while Lyonne will play Aladdin’s Mom and Kravitz will play the Old Miner.
Alia Shawkat, Jack Dishel, Bip Ling, Francesco Clemente, Devendra Banhart and Har Mar Superstar also star in the independent film.
