“The Bachelor” is taking a walk on the retro side.
ABC released a 1970s-style promo video for Peter “Pilot Pete” Weber’s upcoming season, complete with cheesy, trumpet-heavy theme music. The clip is a nod to the network’s next “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” special airing Dec. 18, which will recreate episodes of classic ’70s sitcoms “All in the Family” and “Good Times.”
ABC got pretty creative with the lo-fi promo, going so far as to make a ’70s version of the ABC logo — plus a cringe-worthy voiceover to narrate all the steamy teaser clips that no “Bachelor” promo would be complete without.
After one contestant expresses interest in joining the Mile High Club, the voiceover chimes in with “Careful captain, there’s turbulence ahead.”
In the span of the 30-second teaser, ABC managed to fit no less than four different make out scenes, two of which involve a shirtless Weber. You can watch the video above.
The official full-length trailer for Season 24 teased a drama-filled few months for Weber, who gets surprised by last season’s Bachelorette Hannah Brown.
In case you forgot, Brown, who recently won “Dancing With the Stars,” famously shared a, shall we say … action-packed night in a windmill with Weber at the end of her season of “The Bachelorette” this past summer. Of course, that was shortly before she eliminated Weber from her top three and sent him home. The rest is history — Brown chose the dreaded Jed Wyatt, with whom she quickly broke off her engagement. She later attempted to patch things up with runner-up Tyler C., but after he was seen at several public outings with supermodel Gigi Hadid, rumors of a Hannah-Tyler relationship fizzled out. Maybe it’s not too late for Brown and Weber to rekindle their flame — only time will tell.
“The Bachelor” returns Monday, Jan. 6 at 8/7c on ABC.
