‘America The Story of US’ Propels History to Its Best May Ever

The cable network averaged 36 percent more viewers this May than in 2009

History Channel, buoyed by its special series "America The Story of US," along with strong solid growth from regular series "Pawn Stars" and "American Pickers," posted its best May demo ratings and highest viewership in … history.

"America The Story of US," a six-night series that ran each Sunday during the month, culminated on Memorial Day Monday. On its premiere night, the first episode drew 5.7 million viewers and a 4.0 household rating, the highest rated and most-watched special in the network’s history.

During its May run, the series averaged 3.7 million total viewers and 1.6 million in the 18-49 demo, 1.1 million of those being men. Comparing History’s May 2010 with May 2009, the network was up 36 per cent in total viewers, 24 percent among viewers 18-49, 27 percent among viewers 18-34 and 28 percent among viewers in the 25-54 demo.
