The series, which chronicles the business of Dallas-based Golden Gate Funeral Home, a company that specializes in unusual funeral services, began life as a one-off special. However, as TheWrap first reported exclusively in April, the project was subsequently given a series order.

The season will include unconventional send-offs that include a track-and-field themed funeral for Olympic gold medalist Ronnie Ray Smith; a funeral where the coffin is dipped in chocolate for a stiff who had a powerful sweet tooth; and a game show-themed service.
