Phillip Noyce Takes on ‘Hunter Killer’ for Relativity

“Salt” and “Clear and Present Danger” director is attached to thriller about an untested submarine captain who has to rescue the kidnapped Russian president

"Clear and Present Danger" and "Salt" director Phillip Noyce has been attached to direct Relativity Media's upcoming thriller "Hunter Killer," Relativity Media announced Thursday.

The film is about an untested submarine captain who works with a Navy SEAL team to rescue the president of Russia, who has been kidnapped by a rogue Russian general who wants to spark World War III.

The movie is based on the novel "Firing Point" by George Wallace and Don Keith.

The script is written by Jamie Moss, who wrote X-Men: First Class, John Kolvenbach ("Coney Island") and Arne Schmidt ("Chain Reaction").

Ryan Kavanaugh, Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing. Tucker Tooley is executive producing.

Relativity is targeting production to begin at the end of this year.
