Gabriel Sherman Named National Affairs Editor at New York Magazine

Previously a contributing writer, Sherman stirred a media frenzy in 2014 with his unauthorized Roger Ailes biography

New York Magazine has named Gabriel Sherman national affairs editor, the magazine announced Wednesday.

Sherman, who to date had been a contract contributing writer covering media, real estate and Wall Street, will expand his beat to cover politics and business.

New York editor-in-chief Adam Moss said of Sherman’s promotion: “I’m thrilled that he will be coming on staff and expanding his lens to cover politics and the business world more broadly. He is a truly modern journalist, as adept at quick news breaks for the web as deeply reported features for the magazine.”

Sherman rose to national attention in 2014, when his unauthorized biography on Fox News chairman Roger Ailes caused a frenzy for its sordid details about the powerful media mogul.

Fox disputed the majority of the book’s claims, which painted a picture of Ailes as sexist and volatile. As a result of his extensive Fox reporting, Sherman has often been called on as a guest when Ailes or the network is in the news.

In addition to writing features for the magazine, Sherman will write a regular column for the print magazine along with a weekly web column.
