‘Ghost in the Shell’ Final Trailer Features New Footage of Juliette Binoche (Video)

Film starring Scarlett Johansson debuts this Friday

The final trailer for Scarlett Johansson’s “Ghost in the Shell” reveals some previously unseen footage, most notably of Juliette Binoche’s shady character Dr. Ouélet.

“You are the first of your kind. We saved you, and now you save others,” says the doctor in the trailer.

Johansson stars as The Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

“We cannot control her,” a voiceover says near the end of the trailer as Johansson starts to question whom she can trust.

The movie also stars Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk and Chin Han.

The film adaption of the iconic anime series of the same name, directed by Rupert Sanders (“Snow White and the Huntsman”), came under fire last year for the casting of Johansson as the Major, whose name in the anime movie and TV series is Motoko Kusanagi. The furor was about Asian characters being whitewashed with white actors, a common phenomenon in Hollywood and considered to be particularly egregious with “Ghost in the Shell” because the anime is so beloved.

The film debuts in theaters this Friday.
