“The Hobbit” is one step closer to reaching a theater near you.
Director Peter Jackson posted a photo on Facebook Friday, beneath which he announced the end of principal photography.
“We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit,” Jackson wrote. “Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con! Cheers, Peter J.”

Jackson, who won an Oscar for his adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, has not had an easy road adapting another Tolkien classic. The bankruptcy of MGM almost undid "The Hobbit," as did a labor dispute and Jackson's health issues.
However, the "King Kong" director can now focus on post-production and promotion for the two-part saga, the first subtitled “An Unexpected Journey” and the second “There and Back Again.
The Warner Bros.-Legendary Pictures collaboration is one of three films being showcased at the studio’s Comic Con panel July 14, with Jackson and several stars slated to attend.
