Jeff Daniels Interviews James Corden as ‘Newsroom,’ ‘Dumb & Dumber’ Characters (Video)

Two of the most contrasting characters Daniels has ever played come together for “Late Late Show” segment

Jeff Daniels has played a variety of characters over his career, and he brought two of his most memorable to Tuesday night’s “Late Late Show with James Corden:” Will McAvoy from “The Newsroom” and Harry Dunne from “Dumb & Dumber.”

At first, Daniels as McAvoy interviewed Corden about diversity among late night hosts in proper “Newsroom” style, before Daniels as Dunne bum-rushed the segment.

Things got awkward when McAvoy seemed misinformed about his interview subject, but wasn’t surprised when it turned out that Dunne was the one who did the research.

Turns out Daniels as Dunne, sporting messy hair and wearing a signature hoodie and tee, confused Corden for Andy Richter.

“You are what’s wrong with television today,” McAvoy said to Dunne. “It used to be that you had to be skilled, hard-working to make it in TV, but not anymore. There are two things in this world that give me an ulcer: Indian food and people like you.”

But McAvoy has not given up on the future of TV.

“But TV can be great again, with strong voices who don’t need to shout to be hard,” he continued. “We can make it great again. That is our duty.”

Unable to take the moment seriously, Dunne cracked after McAvoy’s speech, “You said Doody.”
