Jeremy Piven Plans to Take Over the World in ‘Spy Kids 4’

Robert Rodriguez is directing Dimension Films’ 3D sequel, which stars Jessica Alba and Joel McHale

Emmy-winning "Entourage" star Jeremy Piven has been cast as the villain in Dimension Films' "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World," the studio announced on Wednesday.

Robert Rodriguez is directing the 3D sequel from his own screenplay.

Jessica Alba stars as a retired secret agent struggling to raise twin step-kids (Rowan Blanchard, Mason Cook) and a new baby with her famous spy-hunting TV reporter husband (Joel McHale, "Community").

Her world is turned upside down when the maniacal Timekeeper (Piven) threatens to take over the planet, prompting the head of OSS (where the now-defunct Spy Kids division was created) to call her back into action. As Armageddon approaches, she's forced to team up with her step-kids and the original Spy Kids (Daryl Sabara, Alexa Vega) to save the world and in the process, her family.

Antonio Banderas and Danny Trejo will be reprising their roles from the previous entries in the popular franchise, which has grossed over $450 million worldwide.

Troublemaker Studios' Elizabeth Avellan is producing with Rodriguez, who is also serving as his own editor, director of photography and visual effects supervisor on the film, which is currently in production in Austin.

Bob and Harvey Weinstein are exec producing "Spy Kids 4," which is scheduled for release on Aug. 19, 2011.

While Piven's involvement doesn't change the fact that I have no plans to see "Spy Kids 4," I'm always pleased to see him scoring film roles, as he's always done interesting work on the big screen, from "PCU" and "Heat" all the way to "The Kingdom" and the otherwise unwatchable "Smokin' Aces."

He also recently wrapped the indie drama "Drift" and Mark Pellington's thriller "I Melt With You."

Piven is represented by CAA and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
